Anesthesia Explained

The Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care & Pain Management has made great progress advancing anesthesia safety for patients. Your anesthesiologist will make sure your vital signs are stable throughout the surgery while managing your level of consciousness and sleep during the procedure. If you have any concerns before undergoing surgery, please discuss them with your doctor in advance.

Does Anesthesia Have Side Effects?

Common side effects include headaches, pain at the injection site, and slight nausea. Many of these risks can be mitigated through using best practices. Side effects will vary from one person to the next. We recommend having someone pick you up after surgery to monitor your reaction following surgery.
